How to download product images in bulk from an online store
Typical jobs: migrating a catalogue to a new platform, building a feed for marketplaces, collecting supplier photos you are licensed to use, or auditing image quality.
Recipe
- Start URLs: the category/collection pages (pagination pages too, e.g.
?page=2). - Follow product links: one level deep reaches every product page.
- Keep product images only: minimum 400–600 px and a URL rule for the product CDN path.
- Full resolution: take the largest
srcsetcandidate (stores serve 5–10 sizes). - Dedupe: the same photo appears on the category and product page.
With the API
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/sste~website-image-downloader/run-sync-get-dataset-items" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $APIFY_TOKEN" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"startUrls":[{"url":"https://www.example-shop.com/collections/all"}],"crawlDepth":1,"maxPagesPerStartUrl":100,"minWidth":500,"minHeight":500,"urlMustNotContain":["logo","icon","badge"],"maxImages":5000}'
Each row includes the product page URL (pageUrl) and the alt text — usually the product name — so you can map images back to products. Files are in images.zip. Platform specifics: Shopify.
Cost: 100 pages and 3,000 images ≈ $0.62.
Only download images you have the right to use.
